½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, (1 ounce)
½ cup chopped fresh basil, divided
8 oz. whole-wheat fettuccine, or spaghetti
Freshly ground pepper, to taste
¼ tsp. salt, or to taste
2 tbsp. lemon juice, juice
2 tsp. freshly grated lemon zest
2 oz. shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and sliced (1½ cups)
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
